To keep your central heating system in top working order, it’s important to maintain and look after it. Older systems can become inefficient and cost you more to run. If you are experiencing higher bills and a heating system that isn’t warming your home as well as it once did, there are some things we can do to help – one method we recommend is power flushing.

Our trained engineers can complete a power flush on your central heating to improve its efficiency. It is a fuss-free process that only takes a few hours and involves minimal disruption to your home, saving you money and helping to prolong the life of your boiler.

What is Power Flushing and How Does it Work?

Older central heating systems contain a build-up of sludge and debris. It occurs in most systems and is made up of particles of rust and water impurities. This sludge slowly develops over the years and is almost inevitable. It becomes problematic when the sludge stops the water circulating free around the pipes and radiators. It also makes the boiler work harder which puts a strain on the system, damaging the boiler in the long run.

The solution is power flushing. A trained engineer, such as one of the team here at Origin GPH, attaches specialist flushing equipment to the central heating system. Chemicals are used at first to loosen the sludge deposits. Once the deposits are dislodged, freshwater is flushed around the pipes and radiators. The contaminated waste is removed through a full bore dump valve and carried out to the drains.

The power flush process takes a few hours and simply requires access to the existing central heating system. With the pipes clear of debris, the hot water can circulate freely again and warm the radiators more effectively. A power flush only needs to be repeated every 5 years or so, or before a new boiler is fitted.

How do I Know if I Need Power Flushing?

Generally, when identifying if your heating system could make use of a power flush, the signs to look for are cold areas on the radiators that cannot be removed by the regular bleeding process. If your boiler is making unusual noises a lot of the time, this could be a sign that a power flush is needed.

Bills rising unusually, or the home just not getting as warm as it once did, are also key indicators. If you’re not sure if your system needs a power flush, we can check your central heating and give you advice. Our fees for power flushing are competitive and our workmanship is second to none.
